Finding Peace of Mind Within

river rocks

What is Peace of Mind?

My internal peace is a safe place where I can come to after facing stressful situations. This refers to a place where I can be myself without being observed so that I don't betray myself. Or is this place (often our home) where I can go and deal with stress by hiding from my responsibilities?

The term internal refers to something related to, or that exists inside the body; related to, or existing inside the mind. An example of internal peace is a state of calm within a clear mind.

Practical Steps to Releasing Emotions

1. Learn to listen to yourself. Many of us have been unnerved for so long that we forget our own emotions. A scenario will develop, and we will become alarmed that we have lost self-control. This is a result of a history of discomfort that we have misinterpreted.

2. Acknowledge your feelings and take full responsibility for them, not assigning blame. Nobody makes you do anything, IT'S YOU WHO CHOOSE your beliefs as you wish them. Acting like a helpless victim only leads to resentment and anger.

3. Reach out to a trusted friend or counselor. Finding a safe place to express emotions on your own without worrying about judgment offers you the opportunity to release pent-up feelings.

4. Accept yourself as is, and accepting yourself will bring you more peace.

5. Be mindful not to measure yourself excessively. Don't judge yourself—thinking you're the same as everyone else can lead to low self-confidence and feelings of inadequacy. Feelings of inadequacy may cause you to scrutinize your attempts, and thus they don't get accomplished.

6. Release the past. The past is over, and you did everything you could do with what you are capable of at the time. If reminiscences of the past bring up painful experiences, let go of the past. This does not imply that you endorse the behaviors. It indicates releasing memories and emotions to find your internal peace and wholeness.

7. Many options help promote maintaining balance and relaxation, including practicing meditation as an everyday activity, reading books, working out, walking, or creating a safe space so that you can relax in it for yourself.

8. Practice gratitude. What you pay attention to increases as you grant energy to your thought. Thoughts of peace, love, and abundance increase your inner healing and peace and lead to living lives that feel more balanced and harmonious.

9. Keep a journal. People have used journaling for many years to release emotions and make sense of what's happening. This journal or notebook is for you only and allows you to say anything you want without anyone seeing it except you. Once expressed, emotions tend to dissipate and you'll find they are released through this exploration. If this process doesn't work for you, skip it and keep a diary.

10. Spend time with nature. We are part of nature and when we re-connect to the natural world we touch our inner sense of self and spiritual connection to something more. That is something more on to the Universal Energy whether we call it God, Goddess, All That Is, or Higher Power. Whatever we call it, when we feel connected to the Whole we recognize our place in the world and feel a sense of purpose.
